Hope In Difficult Times

A devotion from Pastor Bill, Honduras Mission House.

Let’s be realistic. Life can be hard; life can be very difficult. In John 16:33 Jesus said, “In this world, you will have trouble.” As we live in a world that is increasingly dark and evil, we can claim a “hope that does not disappoint” (Romans 5:5). Even when we go through deep waters and rivers of difficulty, we will not drown. Even when we walk through fire, the flames will not consume us (Isaiah 43:2). We have the Lord on high who is mightier than the waves of the sea (Psalm 93:4)! He will draw us up from the pit of destruction, He will set our feet upon a rock and make our steps secure, and He will put a song of praise in our mouths (Psalm 40:1-3). He will be our hiding place, protect us from trouble, and He will surround us with songs of victory (Psalm 32:7). When we face hard and difficult times, let us remember the words of Corrie Ten Boom: “If you look at the world, you will be distressed. If you look within, you will be depressed. If you look at God, you’ll be at rest.” Let us therefore go boldly to the throne of grace to find help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16) and may the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing as we abound and overflow with this hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).
